California Pizza Kitchen: "Finally a real pizzeria!"

California Pizza Kitchen! Now I am home. When Wes and I saw this place we literally ran across the street like children we were so excited. We were going to get mojitos and eat some of their delicious tiny pizzas. It's places like this, places that take something as staid and dull as pizza and really shake it up a bit, that I think embody the Revolutionary Consciousness in the truest way. As an anarchist, I am concerned with always questioning the status quo and if anyone is questioning the status quo of pizza it's Califo..... SIKE! We didn't eat here! What the hell do I look like?!

Instead we ate at the third (and final?) Mariella, which is, coincidentally, the last slice of pizza above 59th street for me. Which means that once Wes and I finished this slice, I had eaten at EVERY PIZZERIA ABOVE 59th STREET! HOLY SHIT YEAH, REALLY I AM THAT AMAZING. Anyway, this Mariella was possibly my favorite of the bunch. If you'll remember, I ate at the first Mariella quite some time ago with Ma Harvester, the woman who begat me, and I ate at the second Mariella with my friend Blake Schwarzenbach, who is basically like a mother to me.

As soon as it was handed to me, I was already smitten with this slice, ready to eat the shit out of it, even though Wes and I had already eaten 5 slices that day. Because the thing is (here's the thing) I am a sucker for a slice that's got a bit of character. A slice of pizza that is not cut into a perfectly even triangle is like the Shlubby Pizzaman of slices--it is too concerned with being Totally Awesome to worry about Looking Good. And that, my friends, is commendable. And this slice, aside from being ENORMOUS and SLOPPY, was totally delicious. On the cheesier side of a perfect ratio, the slice was cooked exactly right, with a decent crunch despite the weight of the cheese and sauce. This slice was filling and satisfying and every bite was a pleasure. Totally recommended if you're stuck in this shit neighborhood for some reason.

  8. I was starting to get so angry reading this post until I got to "..... SIKE!"

I guess that's how you know you're a New Yorker. I had to take a deep breath and regain my composure.
